Sri Lanka is going through one of the worst times as they are facing a severe economic crisis. The government has totally collapsed and the people are struggling even to get food for survival. Amidst all the challenges, Sri Lanka Cricket wanted to host the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 but considering the situation in the country, ACC named Bangladesh as the standby host for the tournament.
ACC named Bangladesh as stand-by host of Asia Cup 2022
The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup, which is going to be fifteenth overall, is going to commence from August 27. Sri Lanka was selected as the host for the prestigious tournament; however, things have gone from bad to worse in the country due to the political and financial crisis. Keeping the situation in mind ACC named Bangladesh as the stand-by host. Asian Cricket Council has made it clear that they will reconsider the situation before the tournament begins.
Even though the situation in the country is extremely poor, the Australian team visited Sri Lanka for over a month-long tour. When the tour started, the situation was not out of hand but after the crowd’s encroachment on the President’s house, Asian Cricket Council didn’t want to take any risks. As a result, ACC named Bangladesh as stand-by host in case they have to relocate the tournament at the last moment.

The 15th edition of the Asia Cup is coming after a long wait and all the Asian teams will definitely like to stamp their authority. It is to note that the last edition of Asia Cup was played way back in 2018, where team India emerged the winners after trumping Bangladesh in the final. The conditions in Sri Lanka will determine whether the country will host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup or it will be hosted by the stand-by host Bangladesh.
