There were some speculations surrounding this highly-anticipated collaboration had been circulating in the Indian media for the past couple of months. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter on May 22 to confirm the partnership with the sports giant.

“I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s partnership with @adidas as a kit sponsor. We are committed to growing the game of cricket and could not be more excited to partner with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, @adidas,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted on May 22.

As per the reports, BCCI has signed a 5-year deal with Adidas worth INR 350 crores and the sports brand is set to pay INR 65 lakh per match to the Indian Board. The partnership deal with MPL was valid till the end of December 2023. MPL was to pay the BCCI ₹65 lakh per match and ₹3 crore per year as the merchandise partner (a total of ₹9 crore).

“The fine print of the contract is being worked out. But the valuation is set to go up,” a BCCI official said. However, Jay Shah did not reveal any further details about the association with Adidas.

The partnership between the BCCI and MPL Sports concluded earlier than expected leading to an interim sponsorship deal with the makers of renowned clothing brand Killer Jeans. According to the reports, the contract between the BCCI and Killer Jeans is set to expire on May 31.

Earlier, American sportswear manufacturer Nike was the title sponsor for Team India’s kit. In the year 2020, the BCCI had signed a three-year deal with the Mobile Premier League’s sports merchandise brand MPL Sports to replace Nike. Team India will finally have a leading sports apparel brand as their kit sponsor after 3 years.
