Bike stunt gone wrong: Shehan Jayasuriya and Kusal Mendis endure comical skid

Sri Lankan fans had a big reason to celebrate last night as their team whitewashed Bangladesh 3-0 in the ODI series. The series celebrated the farewell of two of the best pacers to have represented the country. Likewise, their budding batsmen consistently came to the fore and posted 200+ totals in each of the three games. The emerald islanders last won a bilateral ODI series back in 2015. For a team in transition, it’s only fair that the players savor this prized victory to their fullest. Except on this occasion, the savory tasted a shade too sweet to some of their players.

Right after the post-match presentations, middle order batsman Shehan Jayasuria decided to take one of the glamorous ceremony bikes for a ride. His good mate Kusal Mendis decided to take shotgun. The duo charged the stylish motorcycle to life, and the crowd were really thrilled to hear the bike purr. Except, the fun didn’t last long; just a few seconds, and Shehan lost control of the motorcycle. The bike skidded on the surface and both Shehan and Mendis were sent tumbling nearby! Fortunately, the guards on duty nearby rushed to the rescue, and reportedly, none of the players have endured any severe injuries. Here’s a video of the comical incident:

Earlier in the game, Mendis partnered with the experienced Angelo Matthews to knit a 101-run partnership. Kusal scored 54, while Matthews made 87 and walked away as the Man of the match. Shehan, meanwhile, struck a four and a six in his 7-ball cameo of 13 runs. He later returned to bowl, and finished with figures of 6-0-40-0. Nuwan Kulasekara, the Lankan pacer who recently retired, received a trophy to commemorate the iconic series win.

How excited are you about the resurgence of the Sri Lankan team? Are commemorative items unnecessary nowadays?
