India etched its name into the record books after becoming the first and only country to make a successful soft-landing on the lunar’s South Pole. Chandrayaan-3 is the third Indian lunar exploration mission carried out under the Chandrayaan programme of the ISRO. Just a month ago, the mission was launched on the date, July 14, 2023, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
It successfully entered the lunar orbit on August 2. The landing of the Vikram lander was scheduled for August 23, 2023, and today, the mission succeeded as India made a soft landing near the South pole of the moon. The Pragyan (rover) will carry out experiments and investigate the lunar atmosphere and dust.
The objective of this mission is to search for water ice in the lunar polar regions and to examine the structure and composition of the Moon. Notably, 8 million people watched Chandrayaan 3 landing on the moon’s surface on ISRO’s official YouTube channel, which is a record for the highest peak viewership in YouTube’s Live history.
