Explained: Why Rohit Sharma is not playing today T20 Match

India faced a humiliating defeat in India vs England 1st T20 match at Ahmedabad. The collapse of India’s top order put India on the backfoot. The Virat Kohli-led side could score 124 runs with the help of Shreyas Iyer’s 67. India made certain experiments in the playing 11. Rohit Sharma’s name was missing from the XI. Fans had a question in their mind that why Rohit Sharma is not playing today T20 match between India and England.

In absence of Rohit, KL Rahul and Shikha Dhawan opened the innings. However, the duo failed as KL Rahul throw his wicket after scoring 1 run. Dhawan too departed soon scoring 4 runs in 12 balls. The early collapse put pressure on the middle-order batsmen. The pitch was bouncy and Rohit Sharma’s inclusion could have made a difference. The 33-year old known for his ability to play short balls.

The reason why Rohit Sharma is not playing today

Virat Kohli explained the reason for not playing Rohit Sharma in today t20 match. The skipper said that India wants to pick the best between KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan. The one who performs better between the two will open the innings alongside Rohit in the last 3 matches. India might rest Rohit in the next match too because of this reason.

However, fans slammed management’s decision of not playing Rohit Sharma in the t20 match today. Virender Sehwag also left unimpressed with the decision. The former Indian opener tweeted, “Public come to see Rohit’s batting. Me, being a Rohit’s fan, if he doesn’t play, my TV will be off”

Likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are also on the waiting list. However, as Shreyas Iyer played a handy knock in 1st match, both may have to warm the bench in the next match. However, India may make some changes in the bowling department. India played with 2 pacers and 3 spinners in the series opener which didn’t work. The management can drop one from Axar Patel and Washington Sundar to make way for a pacer.
