Absolutely not aware of this, says Rohit Sharma on Jai Shree Ram chants on Shami
Team India played a thrilling four-match test series against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While the series was full of gripping moments, cricket fans witnessed a controversial incident during the fourth test as some of the spectators insensitively yelled ‘Shami Jai Shree Ram’ despite knowing the fact that the Indian pacer comes from the Muslim community.
The unfortunate incident took place when the Indian players came near the dugout after the end of the Day’s play. While the fans kept chanting, Mohammad Shami didn’t pay any attention to them and walked away calmly.
Rohit Sharma was asked about the incident in the post-match press conference on the final day of the Ahmedabad Test after which the Indian skipper revealed that he was unaware of the said incident and hasn’t watched the clip.
“Absolutely not aware of this. I heard this for the first time and I don’t know what’s happened there,” Rohit was quoted saying by PTI in the post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, the star Indian pacer picked crucial wickets in Nagpur, Delhi and Ahmedabad tests in a series that was rather dominated by the Indian spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Mohammad Shami was rested in the third test in Indore considering workload management.
After the game in Ahmedabad which resulted in a draw, Team India sealed a 2-1 series victory over the Australian side. This is the fourth consecutive series win for the Indian side against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The series victory against the Aussies also helped the Men in Blue to seal the spot for the World Test Championship final. Interestingly, Australia too has qualified for the WTC 2023 final as the two sides will again contest against each other in the final beginning from June 7 at London’s Kia Oval Stadium. However, the English conditions will be pretty different and the teams will need to adapt in order to clinch the mega ICC title.
