Here are the skippers of India who have lifted Asia’s biggest price

1. Sunil Gavaskar (1984)

The first-ever edition of the Asia Cup which took place in UAE was won by Sunil Gavaskar’s Indian team. It was a three-team tournament in which India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan took part. It was a round-robin tournament in which India topped the table with 8 points to secure the trophy.

2. Dilip Vengsarkar (1988)

The third Asia Cup was hosted by Bangladesh who made their first appearance in the tournament making it a four-team tournament. The Indian team won that edition in which the right-handed batter Dilip Vengsarker led the team to glory.

3. Mohammad Azharuddin (1991, 1995)

Azharuddin is one of the few captains who lifted the trophy twice. His first victory came back in 1991 when the Asia Cup was played between only three teams as the hosts were India which led to Pakistan pulling back from the tournament due to political restrain between India and Pakistan.

His second triumph came in the very next edition which was held in UAE.

There is no surprise as MS has lifted this trophy more than once as he has led India 5 times in the tournament. After a failure in 2008 MS and his men bagged the trophy in 2010 which was played in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, his second success took 6 years when he defeated the hosts Bangladesh in the finals of the 2016 Asia Cup.
