Rajasthan Royals will miss the services of their premier pacer Prasidh Krishna in IPL 2023 as he has been ruled out with a back stress fracture which will require surgery. RR have named Punjab pacer Sandeep Sharma as the replacement of Prasidh Krishna for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League.
IPL 2023 is all set to begin from March 31 as Defending Champions Gujarat Titans will take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Rajasthan Royals will play their first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2.
There’s a long list of injured and unavailable players ahead of the IPL 2023. The RR franchise were quick to rope in Sandeep Sharma in their camp after which he was officially announced as Prasidh Krishna’s replacement on March 27.
Rajasthan Royals sign Sandeep Sharma as Prasidh Krishna’s replacement for IPL 2023
The Rajasthan Royals franchise made the official announcement of signing Sandeep Sharma on Twitter as they posted a picture of the pacer with the caption, “Okay then, making this official.”
Sandeep Sharma has been quite effective with the new ball and has done well in the death overs as well. He has till now played 104 IPL matches and has grabbed 114 wickets with an exceptional economy rate of 7.77.
He was pretty consistent for his previous franchise Punjab Kings. Despite giving optimum results, Sharma was not retained by the Punjab Kings for IPL 2023. He remained unsold in the mini-auction as well. He has earlier played for the SRH franchise as well.
“I don’t know why I went unsold. I’ve done well whichever team I had played for and genuinely thought some team would bid for me. To be honest, I was not expecting this,” Sandeep said in an interview with cricket.com after remaining unsold in IPL 2023 auction.
Considering the long list of unavailable players, a couple of more franchises like Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants might have been interested to pick Sandeep Sharma. CSK’s pacer Mukesh Choudhary and LSG’s pacer Mohsin Khan are currently not fully fit.
There’s no clarity on the availability of Mukesh Choudhary and Mohsin Khan and hence the two franchise might have looked at Sandeep Sharma as a potential replacement. However, Rajasthan Royals were quick to the task and added him to their camp a few days back and then officially announced him as Prasidh Krishna’s replacement.
