Irfan Pathan drops in a candid reply to a fan’s reaction on his ‘farewell team’

Social media has been abuzz ever since CSK stars Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina announced their retirements last week. While the overall vibes were mostly congratulatory; a good amount of fans also felt that the two, national batting-legends deserved a farewell match before their sabbaticals. This recent trend of cricketers calling quits on their careers without felicitations has been a major gripe among fans. Cricketers too, it seems, especially from former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan’s latest collection of posts.

Irfan Pathan, the fiery Baroda left-arm-quick, happens to be among the several cricketers from the 2000-10 decade who bid a silent farewell to The Gentlemen’s Game. Thankfully, his love for the sport could only keep him so far; post-retirement, Irfan took up a commentator’s job at Star Sports, where he offers his analytical insights on the game. Commentary aside, Irfan is also quite active on social media with his cricket-based tweets and endorsements. And on Saturday, he dropped in yet another interesting idea on his Twitter account which resonated well among his fans.

Irfan Pathan posts team of retired players to take on Virat Kohli’s team

Irfan made a tweet proposing for a charity match between Virat Kohli’s current India team against retired players who didn’t get a proper, send-off match. The post featured an eleven-member strong line-up, featuring the likes of the most evergreen players from the decade gone by. Here’s Irfan Pathan’s retired-legends (unofficial name) team:

Packs quite a punch, doesn’t it? Most fans felt so, including Twitter-user @ROHITVERMA18, who believed that the team was, perhaps, too good. “Kyun Chiku ko pelne me lage ho (sic)” (T: Why are you eager on trouncing Chiku (Kohli)), they wrote.

But Irfan had a hilariously candid answer for his fan. (T: Chiku (Kohli) will crush us).
