Pakistan captain Babar Azam –known for having a calm head– was seen a little upset at times during the last Super 4 game of the 2022 Asia Cup, including the instance where the on-field umpire allowed a DRS without his consent.
The match didn’t turn out to be an ideal finale-rehearsal for Pakistan. Surprisingly, the Lankan Lions subdued them to 121 runs all-out and then chased the total with ease.
Babar Azam lashes out at the umpire for his DRS call
In the 16th over of Lanka’s chase, Mohammad Rizwan appealed for a caught behind against Dasun Shanaka off the bowling of right-armer Hasan Ali.
Hurrying to finish the game, Shanka had tried to scoop a short ball that pitched outside the off stump only to be beaten by a small margin.
Regardless, Md. Rizwan and others decided to make use of Pakistan’s Decision Review System.
The umpire even referred their DRS request to the 3rd umpire before an upset Babar Azam indirectly reminded him that the fielding team can not use the Decision Review System (DRS) without the approval of its captain.
Babar, visibly agitated, was quoted as saying, “Main Kaptaan hoon. Kaptaan Main hoon. (I am the captain of the team).”

Interestingly, Babar is going through a lean patch in the 2022 Asia Cup and hasn’t crossed 30 even once, and the stress that comes from lack of form might have been the trigger to Pakistan’s Babar Azam getting upset at the umpire for signalling for DRS without his consent.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are scheduled to lock horns for the 2022 Asia Cup trophy on 10th of September, 2022.
Pakistan have been more convincing side in the tournament thus far and enter the finale as favourites. However, clinching close games and soaking pressure has become the hallmark of Sri Lanka in the event and they have a fair chance of causing an upset against Babar Azam-led Pakistan in the decisive finale.
