Once again Indian former cricketer and turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is in the news for all the wrong reasons. This time he is in the headlines for his old comment on current Indian skipper Virat Kohli. A few years ago when Virat Kohli was new in the Tests then he wrote something negative about his performance in Tests.
It all happened way back in 2012 when the Indian team was on the tour of Australia for four matches Test series. And meanwhile, Team India was performing under the mark as they lost the first two matches with a big margin. Hence, on January 6, 2012, former cricketer Sanjay Majrekar took to twitter to write, “I would still drop VVS & get Rohit in for next test. Makes long term sense. give Virat 1 more test..just to be sure he does not belong here.”

However, Virat Kohli didn’t take too long to prove his worth in Tests and in the very next match he had scored 44 runs and 75 runs. And then in the final match, he hit a century. Although he was the only Indian cricketer to score a century in that tour and hence India lost the series by 4-0.
Now after seven years of the incident, Sanjay Manjrekar is facing the heat on social media platforms. In today’s time, Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman in the world across formats. He is currently leading the ICC ranking in both Tests and ODIs. He has already slammed 27 tons in his span of a career.
As Sanjay Manjrekar’s old tweet making rounds on the internet, he decided to respond to the tweet with another one. He not only defended his old tweet with the new one but also said that he and MS Dhoni were on the same page regarding giving one more chance to Kohli.
He wrote on Twitter, “Very proud of that tweet. In his 1st year in Tests, after scores of 11,0,23,9 in Aus, I remember, fans/media saying Virat does not belong here & had his neck on the chopping block for the next Test. I said give him 1 more Test to be sure. Glad Dhoni & me were on the same page.😌,”
