Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the most consistent batters in the Indian domestic circuit for the past couple of years but hasn’t got an opportunity to represent India in Test cricket yet.
Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad criticised the Indian team selectors over Sarfaraz Khan’s snub from the test squad against Australia in his recent tweet.
Sarfaraz Khan’s exclusion is ‘Abuse to Domestic Cricket’ says Venkatesh Prasad
Sarfaraz Khan is termed as a superstar of the Indian domestic circuit and has three consecutive blockbuster domestic seasons with the bat. He has scored 12 tons including one triple and two double-hundreds but all in vain as he’s still waiting for his debut India call.
India’s former pacer Venkatesh Prasad, who was also one of the contenders for the post of Chief Selector, has heavily criticised Sarfaraz Khan’s exclusion from India’s Test squad against Australia. On January 17, the veteran pacer took to Twitter to express his disappointment over Sarfaraz Khan’s snub.
“Not having him in the Test Team despite 3 blockbuster domestic seasons is not only unfair on Sarfaraz Khan, but it’s an abuse to domestic cricket, almost as if this platform doesn’t matter. And he is FIT to score those runs. As far as body weight goes, there are many with more kgs,” Venkatesh Prasad tweeted.
On the other hand, just days after missing out on Team India’s squad against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the explosive batter smashed another hundred against Delhi in the ongoing Ranji Trophy on Tuesday. He scored 125 runs in just 155 balls on the opening day’s play against Delhi proving his point further more and has put a bit more pressure on the Indian team selectors.
Earlier, Sarfaraz had admitted he cried after not getting the nod for India’s first two Tests against Australia. He also admitted the fact that he was told he will get his chance in the Bangladesh tour after his stellar performance in the domestic circuit.
The selectors have constantly faced backlash for ignoring the best performers from the domestic circuit while giving priority to IPL performance. However, the kind of consistency Sarfaraz has shown, he might get an Indian call soon.
