The 22nd Match of the Pakistan Super League between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators saw some serious action taking place between Ben Cutting and Sohail Tanvir. Both the players were at each other’s throat and their gestures towards each other became the highlight of the match. It all started in the penultimate over of the first inning and escalated to a level which could lead to some disciplinary action.
Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz opted to bat after winning the toss and their batsmen proved the decision right by getting to a very competitive total of 185. Ben Cutting, who came in to bat at No.7 gave his team a great finish by hitting 4 maximums in Sohail Tanvir’s over. However, it was his gesture after hitting a hat-trick of sixes that irked Sohail Tanvir and has become the talk of the town.

In the 19th over of the Zalmi inning, Ben Cutting hit Tanvir for three consecutive sixes on the first three deliveries of the over and then made an offensive ‘two finger gesture’. Cutting sent the fifth delivery over the ropes as well. However, on the very first delivery of the next over, Cutting was cramped on the pull and top-edged the ball to Tanvir, who returned the offensive ‘two finger gesture’.

For the uninitiated, the rivalry between Cutting and Tanvir goes way back to 2018 Caribbean Premier League where Tanvir showed the middle finger to Cutting after getting him out. This happened in the match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots where Tanvir represented the former. Whatever the reason, the two may well face some disciplinary action by the authorities for their offensive gestures on the ground.
As for the match, Peshawar Zalmi emerged victorious as the Quetta Galdiators couldn’t attain the target of 186. Shoaib Malik and Hussain Talat scored half centuries for Zalmi and Cutting contributed with a quickfire 36 off just 14 balls. Peshawar Zalmi are now at the fourth position on the points table while Quetta Gladiators have slipped to the fifth spot.
