Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is often praised for his accurate analysis. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21, Ponting pointed out flaws in Prithvi Shaw’s batting technique and just moments later, the youngster fell prey to an inswinger by Mitchell Starc.
The second Test match of the ongoing Ashes saw Ponting sharing his valuable insights as his analysis of Cameron Green’s batting stance proved to be true. Emphasising that Green is worried of getting out LBW, Ponting predicted that the bowler will look to target the stumps.
“Very distinct change of tactics for the new batsman Cameron Green. They will get a lot fuller and straighter, they will target his stumps. Have a look at how he sets up in his stance. He sets up with a very open front foot. That is generally a sign of someone who is very worried about getting LBW, doesn’t want to get their front foot too far across into the line of his stumps,” Ricky Ponting said while commentating for 7 Cricket.
Ben Stokes did exactly that as just a ball later, he rattled the batsmen with a ball that pitched on the off-stump. Since the dismissal, the cricketing fraternity is busy lauding Australia’s batting legend for his on-point prediction.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who has played for Delhi Capitals under Ponting’s coaching, took to his Twitter account and hailed the commentator for his ‘cricket literacy rate.’

Talking about the Test match, England batsmen again had no answers to difficult questions asked by Aussie bowlers. England could only score 236 runs in their first innings and no batsmen other than Dawid Malan and Joe Root looked comfortable at the crease. Having taken four and three wickets wickets respectively, Starc and Nathan Lyon bowled magnificently and received good support from Green.
