India have put on a mammoth 513-run target in front of Bangladesh to win the first Test. However, the home side accepted KL Rahul and co’s challenge as openers Najmul Shanto and Nasir Hasan provided a brilliant start to their innings. Both put 100 runs on board in 36 overs and the partnership was looking unbreakable until Rishabh Pant took a brilliant rebound catch to get rid of Shanto.

The wicket fell in the 46th over when Umesh Yadav bowled a short-length delivery around the fifth or sixth stump. It should have been left alone but the southpaw tried to play a drive and it took a big edge. It was an absolute dolly for a fielder like Virat Kohli but he made a mess of it.
The ball slipped out of his hands and it rebounded towards keeper Rishabh Pant who showed activeness and caught it with a dive. There was a feeling of regret on Najmul Shanto’s face but he had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring a 156-ball 67 runs. The replay showed that Pant completed the catch on the second attempt. Bangladesh are on the backfoot in the 1st Test vs India
India got the first breakthrough at a score of 124 and newly arrived Yasir Ali also headed back after being deceived by Axar Patel’s delivery. Thus, the hosts were again in survival mode after losing 2 wickets at a score of 131.Â
Bangladesh are chasing 512 which is near to impossible task. No team has ever chased 500-run target in Test Cricket history. The biggest total in Tests was chased by West Indies in 2003 when they successfully accepted Australia’s challenge of scoring 418 runs.
