Gujarat Titans’ batting lineup went all guns blazing in the game against Mumbai Indians and put all sorts of pressure on their bowlers and fielders. In an intense situation of the GT vs MI game, Piyush Chawla made a poor fielding effort after which skipper Rohit Sharma lost his calm.
GT opener Shubman Gill had given them the kind of start they needed as he hit a crucial 56 in just 34 balls. However, Mumbai Indians’ spinners helped them to make a comeback by dismissing GT skipper Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar in a quick succession.
In the middle overs, it was the partnership made by Abhinav Manohar and David Miller that kept Gujarat Titans in the game. The two aggressive batters kept the pressure on MI bowlers and fielders which made them commit silly mistakes.
Rohit Sharma gets furious after Piyush Chawla’s fielding error
Riley Meredith came in to bowl the 17th over of GT innings and tried a yorker on the third delivery. Abhinav Manohar squeezed it off towards the short third man where Piyush Chawla made a poor fielding effort as he took his eyes off the ball and the ball went rolling past him.
Piyush Chawla’s fielding error cost MI four runs as the ball eventually crossed the boundary rope at the third-man region. Rohit Sharma lost his cool after the incident which led to an outburst while Piyush himself was disappointed at his own effort.
Abhinav Manohar went on to play a stellar knock of 42 runs off just 21 deliveries including 3 fours and 3 maximums. David Miller too played his shots throughout the innings as he scored 46 runs off 22 deliveries including a couple of fours and 4 sixes.
Rahul Tewatia allowed them the finishing touch as he smashed three monstrous sixes while playing just 5 deliveries. Courtesy of some brilliant batting in the death overs, Gujarat Titans posted a massive total of 207-7 in their 20 overs in the GT vs MI game on a batting-friendly wicket in Ahmedabad.
In response to GT’s total, Mumbai Indians never got the kind of momentum they needed. They could only score 29 runs in the powerplay overs after an early departure of Rohit Sharma. Young Nehal Wadhera scored a quick-fire 40 but couldn’t make his team to chase down the target as the MI franchise fell short by 55 runs in the crucial game.
